A note from the OEF bean counter...

February 22, 2008
Lent

Greeting of Peace and all good; good siblings!

Here in the U.S. not only is it Lent it’s also tax season! Lent and tax season actually have much in common. During Lent we look at our spiritual journey, we revise and report on our Rule, we take an accounting of our spiritual poverty, we take a long hard look at our sacrifices and we look forward with great joy to the coming Resurrection! At tax time we look back at our finances and organize them, we count up our losses and we look at all we have gained. And we look forward with great joy to our rebate checks! An important part of tax season is taking a careful inventory of tax deductible contributions. Sometimes we find we gave more than we should have, maybe we sacrificed a little too much, and then again is there ever too much giving? Or perhaps we didn’t quite sacrifice enough, perhaps we gave less than we could have, but not to worry there is always this fiscal year to give more. We generously give our hard earned money away to nonprofits like OEF, a local parish church, and/or large charities like The United Way or The Red Cross. We donate to local little leagues and fire departments, we donate to the poor. We are Franciscans ~ and for the love of the Poor Christ; we give. Thank God, thank goodness we give because we can; we give because we are called!

At the beginning of this year as your OEF treasurer and registrar I counted up our income and organized our expenses. To help us build a better budget for this year and next we sent out a new “contribution form”. This form is a tool that will help us estimate how much will be donated by members to OEF. Without knowing how much money may be coming in, it is impossible to budget how much we can give away! If you haven’t done so already, perhaps as you look at your tax information, you will make a sincere estimate on what you will be able to afford to give this year to OEF. Please be kind and send in your contribution form and a donation if possible today!

Our goal is: 52 contribution forms = $18,720.00
Total received to date: 14 contribution forms = $ 3,860.00
Chapter Registration is going on right now! Please if you haven’t submitted your registration form please do so as soon as you can. Scholarships are available and if you have any questions regarding Chapter or Scholarship please contact me through email or phone.

Estimated Cost of Chapter 2008: $9200.00
Total donations received restricted for Chapter to date: $3385.00
Total number of registered members and guests: 21

Peace and all Good.
