Second Sunday of Advent- At First Evensong 1 Year, 5 Months ago
Lighting of the second Advent Candle
The Candle of Promise
The angel said to Mary, "You shall conceive and bear a son, and you shall give him the name Jesus...God's promises can never fail."
Blessed are you, O Mary, because you believed that God's promise to you would be fulfilled
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for you have looked with favor on your lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed;
for You, the Almighty, have done great things for me and holy is your Name.
You have mercy on those who fear you in every generation. You have shown the strength of your arm,
you have scattered the proud in their conceit. You have cast down the mighty from their thrones and have lifted up the lowly. You have filled the hungry with good things and the rich you have sent away empty. You have come to the help of your servant Israel, for you have remembered your promise of mercy. The promise you made to our forebears, to Abraham, Sarah, and their seed for ever.
Glory to God, Source of all being, Eternal Word, and Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen
Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation; give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
