Dale Carmen, OEF, who got it all started |
The Order of Ecumenical Franciscans was given birth when our founder, who went through the
formation process with TSSF, was ready for her profession. Since she was not an Episcopalian,
she could not be professed with that Order.
Through her experience and the discovery of others
who had a sense of vocation to a Franciscan life, it became clear that there was a need for an
ecumenical option -- especially for those whose denominations made no provision for the religious life.
Guided by leaders of TSSF, our Order came into existence in 1983 as a Franciscan option for all who have a Franciscan vocation. We cross many denominational lines, including people from more than 18 Christian traditions/communions. We are clergy and laity, celibate and married, men and women -- an inclusive community. The TSSF continues to encourage and suport us. We value our continuing relationship with them.
