Justice, Peace & Integrity of Creation
The OEF has a working group on Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC). This working group focuses on:
collaboration with the Franciscan Action Network, a national network of Franciscans throughout the U.S. working on JPIC issues,
supporting and affirming the JPIC work of members of the OEF in their own local communities,
identifying an annual collaborative project that the OEF will support, and
coordinating a monthly JPIC fast focused on JPIC areas of concern.
Members of the OEF are involved in a wide array of community ministries. The following summarizes the primary areas of involvement:
Justice
Efforts to end homelessness and hunger and to provide food, shelter and hope to those who are hungry and homeless
Advancing affordable housing
Working to eradicate poverty and address the needs of low income persons, families and communities
Providing care and advocacy on behalf of persons with HIV/AIDS, persons with addictions and persons with mental illness
Providing direct services to immigrants and refugees and advancing policies that protect immigrants and refugees
Supporting sexual minorities and advocating for LGBT rights
Advocating for legal justice for individuals who are marginalized or facing discrimination
Offering services to the elderly
Peace
Opposing war and advancing peace
Engaging in anti-racism initiatives
Integration of Creation
Advancing creation centered spirituality
Promoting lifestyle commitments that protect the environment
Advocating for environmental justice
Educating as to animal rights and wildlife protection
